  先日、AMDのOB達が集うWebサイトを眺めていたら、シリコンバレーで活躍したコンピューター研究者・開発者であるAlan Kayの話題で盛り上がっていた。1960-70年代、シリコンバレーのメッカであるパロアルトにはXeroxやHPなどの研究所があり、その周りに半導体スタートアップが次々と誕生していた。Xeroxのパロアルト研究所(PARC)をはじめスタンフォード大学などでコンピューター研究者として活躍したのがAlan Kayである。 1940年生まれのKayは現在で81歳であるが、未だにいろいろな場面で発信をしている。彼がXerox時代に開発したごく初期のワークステーション“Star”にはAMDのバイポーラCPUであるAm2900ファミリーが使われていたので、AMDのOB達の中にはKayと親交がある人々もいる(私自身は会ったことはないが)。AMDのOB達が指摘していたのは、彼の過去での発
